If we are to Hug the world, it starts with understanding the basic make-up of a hug or its DNA if you will.
OK, so what is the anatomy or basic components of a hug?
Mmmmm a minimum of 2 people + four arms … although I guess a minimum of 2 arms is possible. I have hugged a person whose arms seemed to be missing, but I digress… but actually that’s the truth a hug is still a hug even if only one person is giving and the other is apparently unreceptive – though if they haven’t run away they are still receiving.
So 2 people + minimum of 2 arms (though 4 is preferred)
+ Arms open with fingers extended – I have seen hugs with hands in a fist or holding something and therefore unable to be “open”…
+ then “clutched”, the posture of an embrace in which the 2 involved are connected.
OK – I almost forgot there are different postures or positions!
A short list of “types” of hugs:
Frontal Hug, Side Hug, From the Back Hug, and Air Hug (not touching but symbolic-style).
Alright, back to the clutch. Once the clutch is initiated there is then a time differential. There can be the short quickie time or the long lingering (don’t want to ever let go). The duration of the hug is the qualifier as to what is being expressed, who it is being expressed to and the general comfortability of the giver and receiver!
So in summary (though not exhaustive)
Open Arms and Hands + Clutch + Time = Hug
To hug the world really just takes a willingness to be honest and open, embrace to meet needs and give the time that is necessary to make a difference…. So a hug can be physical, emotional and spiritual… another blog post.
